Came here with some friends after running errands in the morning on a Saturday. Fairly busy place during lunch and likewise noted the odd shape of the restaurant that makes it seem smaller than it actually is. Was seated promptly after they pushed two tables together for the three of us. Nice variety of dishes from bento to soba to sushi and everything looked great so it was hard to choose.
Ended up going for the sushi gozen which was a sushi set that came with another ornately plate tray of side dishes as well as a basket of tempura.
Tempura came out first and had a selection of veggies as well as shrimp which were all delicious. Nigiri and the tuna roll came next and was good, not great. By this point I was already full when the last tray of side dishes came and it all was nicely plated and looked and tasted amazing. All in all very satisfied with the meal and will take into account how much food they give with each set before ordering. Will definitely be back. -

I really like this place! Good Japanese food but a bit expensive.....
But last night I ordered chirashi to go and by the time I got home all the fish was cooked!? The rice was too hot!? Rice shouldn't even be hot to begin with........... ruined my dinner last night..... -

This is a small, sort of odd-shaped restaurant in Irvine. I think most, if not all of their staff speak Japanese. As far as the food goes, it's pretty decent and we like coming here.
We came at lunch on a Saturday, a little after lunch time, so we were seated right away. There can be a wait some times.
The Sagami Noodle Set is a good combo - we had the kake udon and katsu don, and the Poke Bowl Mix. The fish was fresh and tasty. There are many other options for combos, too.
It gets crowded in the evening, so there might be a wait.
Parking is fairly easy and I've never had a problem. It's surrounded by many fast food options, so if it's too crowded, you can try those. Overall, it's a good, casual option for Japanese food. -

You know you're in the right Japanese restaurant when 90% of the patrons are well dressed Japanese speaking Japanese.
It's my favorite causal Japanese restaurant. Their tempura is excellent. When I don't order it I regret it. They have some interesting rolls, which are delicious. They also have regional Japanese food which one doesn't see in standard casual Japanese restaurants.
My favorite is the Premium Chirashi bowl. It's not cheap at $25.00, but it's worth it. The fish is fresh and flavorful. One cannot appreciate the fine complex delicate flavors in fish unless you eat it raw. However, when eaten raw, inferior quality fish is quickly exposed. Sagami fish is always superb.
Other excellent choices include the fried squid salad, katsu bowl, fried chicken with tartar sauce, and miso black cod.
You cannot go wrong at Sagami. -

OMG this is the best eel rice I ever had in the states! It was well worth the $20 spent. I usually cannot stand the taste and smell of eel but this place has amazing eel without the muddy smell and taste. Definitely will come back for more in the future.
Their miso pork chop was okay. Not the best especially at such steep price point. I had better at mitsuwa food court at half the price. It was not crispy by any means nor was it juicy at all.
No one came to check on us. Not even once.
